Cycle New Zealand: Nat Perez
The charities to benefit are Community H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, And Reconstruction Training) - a London-based charity funding and supporting projects in Southern Africa. Nat has been a volunteer for the last six years as the book co-ordinator and is also a Director and Council Member. Community H.E.A.R.T. has to date sent nearly 1.5M books to South African schools, who are in desperate need and other educational institutions (including colleges and universities). It also supports a number of other projects in Southern Africa. Please look at the website: - www.community-heart.org.uk Unison Welfare (who are organising the tour) along with the National Deaf Children's Society and Community H.E.A.R.T. will benefit from the funds raised. Nat is an elder (66) of the 35-strong team. The riders need to raise 2,000 by October and a total of 2,500 by the closure of the fund-raising event, after November. His own outlay has been, so far, 425 which is the initial enrolment and a further 400 or so on equipment and bicycle servicing. Please note that all the monies raised will go to the three charities. He believes that now, in June, he has reached a good level of fitness for the task in November, so he feels very confident. Nat Perez |
